Anger is brewing among farmers, and harsh actions have been increasing across the territory since the announcement of a possible agreement with Mercosur. This free trade commercial partnership arouses strong opposition in the peasant world. Farmers denounce competition that they consider unfair, pointing to much less strict production standards in environmental and health matters among Mercosur partners. Road blockages, filter dams and manure deposits in front of the prefectures testify to their exasperation.
Also, a week after the blocking of the Foix tunnel, the agricultural profession in Ariège announces a new mobilization:
“For almost a year, our unions and the entire Young Farmers and FNSEA network have been sounding the alarm to the Government. Although some measures have been announced, their application is not rapid or complete enough. We wish to alert and raise public awareness of the various difficulties encountered by the agricultural profession. This is thanks to actions that will allow us to meet consumers and promote the importance of consuming French. In continuation of our previous actions to once again increase our pressure on the Government, we have decided to organize a new mobilization on Wednesday, November 27, 2024,” indicate in a press release the entire Young Farmers network and the FDSEA.
“We don’t want any more promises!” We are awaiting action from the Government very quickly”
Thus, a filter barrier will be manned by the organizations from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. next Wednesday – November 27 – at the Sabart roundabout in Tarascon-sur-Ariège.
“Our demands are as follows: guarantee farmers' income and strengthen our competitiveness, we want economic and cash flow measures to support farmers, drastic administrative simplification through government-led measures and tax relief. Unbuilt Property Tax. We don't want any more promises! We are waiting for action from the Government very quickly, the future of Ariège and French agriculture depends on it! », insist the FDSEA and the Young Farmers of Ariège.
