Depression Bert will hit the UK this weekend with stormy winds, heavy snow in Scotland and heavy rain with a risk of flooding. In the English Channel too, the winds will be stormy.
A very windy Saturday in Brittany
The very deep depression Bert at 946 hPa is approaching Ireland this Saturday. Ahead, a strong south-southwest flow is developing over the Channel basin. Strong gusts are expected from Saturday, at more than 90 km/h on the coast and 100 km/h on the exposed capes or for example near Ouessant. In the evening, as the cold front approaches, gusts strengthen and exceed 100 km/h on the west coast of Brittany and on the coasts of the Manche department.

Sunday morning, the cold front is expected very early in western Brittany with gusts of up to 120 km/h on exposed capes and generally between 100 and 110 km/h on the Breton coasts. The cold front shifts towards the Manche department in the morning with gusts between 100 and 120 km/h possible. On the rest of the Channel coast, the wind blows strongly, generally between 80 and 90 km/h. At the end of the day, the wind reached up to 120 km/h at Cap Gris Nez.
This fairly classic gale for the season occurs only 48 hours after the storm Caetano which caused tens of thousands of power cuts between Brittany and Normandy.
