This Thursday, November 21 marked the 7th edition of DuoDay, an essential national initiative for the inclusion of people with disabilities. And Lot-et-Garonne is not left out.
Organized as part of the European week for the employment of people with disabilities, this event is supported by the secular association for the management of education and integration establishments ALGEEI in partnership with the ministry responsible for people with disabilities . DuoDay is based on a simple but proactive concept: a company, an association or a community welcomes a person with a disability to form a pair with a professional volunteer. A one-day immersion that allows you to exchange ideas, discover yourself and overcome stereotypes in the professional sphere.
373 duos in the department
The 2024 edition confirmed the growth of this operation with 31,436 duos formed in France (+ 14% compared to 2023) with an initially stated objective of crossing the threshold of 20% of participants and the outcome: a permanent contract, a fixed-term contract, a work-study program, an internship or a training period. An expansion this year in line with the upward trajectory of 2023.
The benefits are concrete for the people concerned: the opportunity to discover a profession, serve as a springboard for refining a professional project, or as a lever towards lasting professional integration, better visibility with employers and by participating in DuoDay, getting out of the isolation, create new networks and break down certain social barriers due to disability.
For employers, it is a way to discover unsuspected talents, a new approach to caring management and to promote an inclusive society where everyone, with their singularities and differences, can legitimately find their place and bring added value to the welcoming structure.
Health and agri-food, the growing sectors
The figures for Lot-et-Garonne for this 2024 edition reported by the departmental ALGEEI are as follows. The number of employers registered on the DuoDay platform amounts to 208, the number of offers proposed to 489 (6,193 in Nouvelle Aquitaine), the number of duos completed to 373 (4,200 in the Nouvelle Aquitaine region) and the number of disabled people registered on the platform at 539 (6,881 in New Aquitaine). Finally, the number of accompanying structures is 41.
Among the sectors of activity which are more willing to play the game and the card of solidarity: the field of health, agri-food, public activities, distribution, hotels and restaurants and leisure, administration, supermarkets, local authorities. The view on disability is changing, this special day is humanly rich and is intended to bring hope.
