Saturday November 30, at 2 p.m., in Falaise () from the Guillaume-le-Conquérant high school, the president of the Falaise association heritageKatia Guyomard, will take you in the footsteps of tramway from Falaise.

“To stick with the theme of the builders of the Telethon, I wanted to offer a heritage walking circuit that is not usual. And it started from an exchange with Nicolas Prévelle on the tram route. I found this super interesting. »

Katia Guyomard.

Hence the proposal for this unique theme “introducing the little train to Falais residents”.

Journey of the little train

There was a time when Falaise was connected to by tram. This infrastructure operated for 30 years, from 1902 to 1932, quickly competing with the railway. The tramway, often called “the little train”, allowed Falais residents to reach Caen at a speed of 14 km/hour, passing through Bons Tassilly, Ussy, -le-Pin, Bretteville-Sur-Laize with arrival at Saint- Pierre in Caen.

It therefore took 3 hours 20 minutes of bucolic travel and relative comfort to go to Caen and 6 hours 30 minutes for those who wanted to go to Ouistreham.

Falaise constantly tried to have a major railway line. But the city will never win its case. This tramway was a kind of compensation for connecting Caen and Falaise by rail.

Katia Guyomard.

There are still some traces of this tramway in Falaise, and this is what Katia is offering on Saturday November 30.

“Opportunity to tell about its construction, its use, its usefulness too, interspersed with anecdotes… Its primary vocation is not the transport of passengers, but above all the transport of goods. »

3.5 km route, starting from the high school, passing through La Fleurière, Les Bercagnes, Val d'Ante, the Panoramic Way, going up towards the Saint-Gervais cemetery, and Rue d'Hasting to Carrefour (old station). A walk punctuated with old photos and postcards from the period.

Registration on site, at the Louis-Liard high school, at €5, entirely for the benefit of the Telethon. Duration between 1h30 and 2h. On arrival drinks and cakes prepared by the Soi-toît association.
