Nanaimo RCMP – Charges laid in July 19, 2023 fatal crash on Nanaimo Parkway

Charges have been laid following the car crash that claimed the life of 24-year-old Reid Davidson, whose name is being released with parental consent. Mr. Davidson died after another vehicle traveling the wrong way on Nanaimo Drive collided with his vehicle. (Original press release)

After a lengthy investigation, on April 25, 2024, charges were officially filed against 60-year-old Michael Rennie. Mr Rennie is believed to be the driver of the vehicle which collided with Mr Davidson’s. Mr. Rennie being homeless, a warrant was issued for his arrest.

On May 26, 2024, Mr. Rennie was located in Nanaimo and arrested without incident. His next court appearance is scheduled for July 10, 2024 in Nanaimo Provincial Court. Mr. Rennie is charged with Criminal Negligence Causing Death, Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle and Failure to Stop After an Accident, all under the Criminal Code.
