The RCMP is asking for the public’s help to identify a man following an armed assault and two break-ins that occurred in Hanwell, near Fredericton.
On Monday, around 10:50 p.m., RCMP officers went to a business on Timothy Avenue in Hanwell where a break-in was in progress.
As they arrived on scene, officers were informed that a second break-in was in progress in the same area, where a man was seen by officers loading stolen property into a U-truck. Haul.
According to RCMP, the man jumped behind the wheel of the U-Haul truck and attempted to ram the police car head-on, but hit the passenger side before fleeing. The suspect also tried to ram the vehicle of the security guard who intervened during the first break-in.
The U-Haul truck was followed onto Route 3 southbound, where police attempted to deploy a tire deflation device.
According to police, the driver of the truck deliberately aimed his vehicle at the police officer who was on the side of the road, forcing the latter to jump into the ditch to avoid being hit. The police officer was slightly injured during the incident.
The investigation also revealed that the same man had stolen fuel from a Ripples business around 10:13 a.m. the same day.
Police release security camera image of suspect and U-Haul truck. This one is 15′ long and has an Arizona license plate (AG66559). The front of the truck could be damaged.
The suspect could be dangerous. If you see it, don’t approach it. Instead, call 911 immediately.
