“It starts with smoke propelled under pressure, then flames or even an explosion. All in a few seconds”, this is how Lieutenant-Colonel Sébastien Frémont, firefighter in Yvelines, describes the risks incurred in the event of overheating of a lithium battery. Faced with the danger, the department's firefighters launched an awareness campaign, indicates 78Actu.

Three vans recently acquired by the department's firefighters were therefore adorned with a visual indicating “Electric scooter, defective battery = fire risk”. The vehicles thus decorated belong respectively to the Chevreuse, Le Vésinet and Magnanville barracks. “Never recharge it near the only exit door from your home! ”, we can read on these trucks.
A Franco-American association
This prevention campaign is the result of a partnership between the Sdis des Yvelines and the FDNY – SP78 association, which brings together the firefighters of the department and those of New York (United States). Lieutenant David Montmartin, for his part, reminded that it is recommended to recharge devices equipped with a lithium battery “on a terrace or an open place”, to monitor and unplug the charger at the end.
