The young Antwerp native is the youngest in our delegation. And stands as the new “Greta Thunberg”, Belgian version. The new “Adélaïde Charlier”, the new “Anuna De Wever”. In a letter addressed to the leaders of this world, he urges a paradigm shift, to see global warming not as a thorn in the side for their economic growth but as a threat to the planet. “There is more than enough money and knowledge in the world, but we need to invest in the right things. Like better technology, electric cars, renewable energy and eating less meat.”
COP29 – Rich countries commit to no longer opening coal-fired power plants
Ferre had the opportunity to read his letter during a reception organized by the Belgian embassy in Baku, in the presence of Belgian ministers currently at COP29: the federal Minister of Climate, Zakia Khattabi, and her Brussels counterparts, Alain Maron, and Flemish, Melissa Depraetere. He addresses ministers and leaders from all countries gathered at the UN climate change summit, calling on them to be more attentive to children, whose future is at stake.”Many of you will be old or dead by 2050 (Editor’s note: date of carbon neutrality targeted by Europe). We only have 10 years left to take action. If we don’t do this, even scientists don’t know what will happen.”Ferré said again.
A trip by train… then by plane!
The young child went to Baku with the intention of representing “all the children of the world”, he confided, at the beginning of November, to our colleagues at Laatste Nieuws. In 2050, I will be 38 years old. I am happy now, I live well and I want to have a good life in 2050, like all children my age.”
COP29 – Thirty countries, including Belgium, commit to methane emissions linked to waste
His commitment is not a politically orchestrated Com’: his grandparents and parents are involved in citizen movements in favor of the climate and sustainable development. It was he who suggested to his parents the idea of going to Baku. But it was with Grandma and Grandpa that he went there. Partly by plane unfortunately, the train being much too long to get 3,592 kilometers as the crow flies from Deurne. He reached Budapest by train, before taking the plane to Baku with a stopover in Istanbul.
