This Tuesday at the end of the day, the Vendée was swept by wind gusts reaching nearly 100 km/h. A brief but intense meteorological episode, which mobilized the department's firefighters. Between fallen trees and objects threatening to fall, the Departmental Fire and Rescue Service (Sdis) was overwhelmed with calls.
A hundred calls in a few hours
According to France Bleu, from 5 p.m., the Sdis lines were saturated. “During this episode, Sdis received around 200 calls and carried out 16 interventions,” the emergency services specified in their report. These interventions mainly focused on securing roads where fallen trees obstructed traffic. Firefighters also had to intervene for unstable objects, which could cause accidents.
Gusts of up to 100 km/h recorded
The windy episode particularly affected the Vendée coast. According to Meteociel data, the most violent winds were recorded on Île d'Yeu (97 km/h) and Grues (94 km/h). Other localities, such as Noirmoutier (86 km/h), Le Perrier (84 km/h) and La Roche-sur-Yon (82 km/h), also suffered powerful gusts.
Significant resources deployed on the ground
To respond to the emergency, 18 emergency vehicles were mobilized throughout the department. The fire teams worked in close collaboration with the municipal technical services and the departmental roads service. Together, they made it possible to quickly clear congested paths and secure sites where objects threatened to fall.
An intense episode but fortunately without injuries
Despite the violence of the gusts and the extensive material damage, no injuries were reported. However, firefighters recalled the importance of remaining vigilant in the event of strong winds, particularly near trees and fragile infrastructure.
While Vendée has recovered from this episode, vigilance remains necessary for the coming days, as similar weather conditions could occur again.
