43 people have lost their lives on the roads of Guadeloupe since January 1, including 3 in 3 days. In 2023, the accident toll rose to 40 deaths.
Four men lost their lives in road accidents between Wednesday November 13 and Monday November 18.
Last Wednesday, around 10:45 a.m., a pileup involving three vehicles, in La Rose, in Goyave, left one person dead. and 4 lightly injured. An 80-year-old man, in cardiac arrest when help arrived, did not survive despite attempts at resuscitation.
In the same week, Saturday November 16, a pedestrian aged around 40, struck by a vehicle, in Grand-Camp, in Les Abymes, on the Nationale 1, died.
This Monday (November 18) in the night, a little after 2 a.m., a motorist crossed the Blanchet roundabout in Gourbeyre, rolling several times before ending up in a wall, the gendarmes indicate. The two occupants of the vehicle, two men aged 20 and 30, did not survive their injuries.
Since the start of the year, 43 people have lost their lives in road accidents.
Among these 43 killed, there were 20 in light vehicles (including 6 passengers) and 23 vulnerable users including 8 on a motorcycle, 1 on a quad, 4 on a moped, 4 on a bicycle and 6 pedestrians. Vulnerable users represent just over 55% of deaths.
In 2023, during the same period, there would be 31 deaths (an increase of 29%). The toll was 40 victims, as of December 31, 2023.
In 2022, during the same period, there were 38 deaths (an increase of 5%). At the end of 2022, the toll was 49.
Every Monday, state services publish details of offenses committed the previous weekend. Figures showing dangerous driving behavior.
Thus, from November 15 to 17, in the gendarmerie zone, 59 offenses were recorded, mainly:
- 22 for speeding, including 3 over 40km/h,
- 8 for non-compliance with the stop sign,
- 5 for lack of technical control,
- 4 for driving under the influence of alcohol,
- 4 for smooth tire,
- 3 for lack of insurance
- 3 for not wearing a seat belt.
Offenses which resulted in 6 driving license suspensions, taken by the prefectural authority.
In the police zone, 36 motorists out of 76 checked were fined, mainly:
- 10 for using the telephone while driving,
- 7 for not wearing a seat belt,
- 5 for not wearing a helmet,
- 4 for double-row parking,
- 2 for lack of technical control
- 1 for crossing a continuous line
In total, 2 vehicles were immobilized and 3 people arrested.
