The work of the 5th National Steering Committee of the Nekkal program was launched yesterday. This program funded by the European Union aims to ensure a “modern and secure” civil status for every Senegalese. During this meeting, the Minister of Urban Planning, Local Authorities and Territorial Planning, who chaired the ceremony, took stock of the situation before returning to the mapping of civil status in Senegal. “In terms of digitization and indexing, we are at almost 19 million civil status documents which have already been registered. Which is quite a considerable advance. What remains for us is to complete the 26 civil status centers under construction, but above all to interconnect the centers and thus allow the upcoming launch of the application which would allow each Senegalese to request their civil status from their mobile phone. , said Moussa Bala Fofana.

“This year, no student failed their Cfee due to lack of civil status documents”

The minister also spoke about the situation of students who do not have civil status documents and who are taking the Cfee and entering 6th grade this year. On this, he gave assurances: “In the past, we had to encounter this situation, but this year, the President of the Republic and the Prime Minister have decided that this document will not be required and that the All the students who present themselves will be able to take the exam, because the child is not responsible and it would not be normal for him to be penalized on this point. Also, he informs, “a special system” has been put in place between Justice and local authorities. He added that the supervisory ministry is working to ensure that “all children who have been registered and who did not have a document benefit from a special circuit to obtain their civil status document”.
