Montauban. The Friends of the MIB visited the Goya Museum in Castres

The Friends of the Ingres-Bourdelle Museum (MIB) organize a cultural and friendly outing every spring. This is how they went at the start of the week to the welcoming town of Castres in the Tarn, crossed by the Agout, located on the roads to Compostela. Arriving directly at the Évêché garden, designed by Versailles gardener André Le Nôtre, the guided tour began with the Goya museum.

Coach ride to end the day

Former Episcopal Palace from the 17th century on plans drawn by Jules Hardouin-Mansart, architect of Versailles, the museum houses an important collection of Spanish paintings from the Middle Ages to the present day. Created in 1840, it was expanded thanks to the bequest of the generous donor Pierre Briguiboul in 1894, including three paintings by Goya and his series of engravings “Les Caprices”.

The museum was restored from 2020 to 2023. Its new scenography adds value to important Iberian artists: Goya, Velàzquez, Murillo, Dali, Tàpies and Barcelo. A great moment in art history.

After a friendly meal, the Friends visited the city with a passionate and fascinating guide. The day ended with a water boat ride on the Agout River, which allowed us to take a closer look at beautiful houses with colorful facades.
