“We won’t give up. Wherever there is a shortage of a teacher, we will go and demonstrate.” The message is clear, and the anger is felt in the voices of parents, and elected officials of the FCPE gathered in front of the Simone-Veil college in (Seine-et-Marne) this Friday November 15, 2024 in the morning.

Here, as elsewhere in the department, they target the absence of teachersand in particular those of Frenchone of the most important subjects for students.

A teacher is missing

In the Chelles establishment alone, these are two fourth grade classes et two need groups of fifth graders who are concerned. “This represents in all 95 studentsand 153 hours of lessons lost since the start of the school year,” reacts a mother, present that day.

For parents, like the teaching team who also partly mobilized this Friday, the concern is strong. “ How will children be able to catch up? This is not possible. Pirethis brings additional inequality compared to other students,” sighs another mother.

In their sights, everyone has the national Brevet diploma, which will become, in 2027, compulsory to progress to second grade. “If they don’t have the classes, how will they get their diploma? We must think that today's children are tomorrow's future,” she continues.

“It adds stress”

Present at the gathering, the deputy for the tenth constituency of Seine-et-Marne, Maxime Laisney, also has questions. “If they don’t have French, how can they pass the certificate? », he asks.

For parents, the concern is all the greater as the collegeopened recently, does not yet have its third grade classes, and the government has announced that it wants to eliminate 4,000 teaching positions. “ There is already a shortage of teachers when the establishment is not complete. What will it be like once all the students are here? », worries Salma Meghdirdeputy general secretary of FCPE 77.

Like the other parents, she feels discontent rising among parents, while supporting the management of the establishment, “which is doing everything possible”. “ Parents are just fed up. We want to play the game well, but we reach the end. We've been told for weeks that “it's in progress”, but we don't want to wait any longer. There have always been problems with absences, but it is not getting better. This adds stress to the children,” he grumbles. Belinda Borsalivice-president of FCPE 77.

Other establishments affected

The problem of the prolonged absence of a professor affects other establishments within the department. As proof, in Coulommiers, recruitment was carried out for the campus, and the position should be taken up soon. Ditto to Martin Luther King, in Bussy-Saint-Georges. On the Dammarie-lès-Lys side, recruitment is still in progress.

For the latter, moreover, the problem risks getting worse next year, with the expansion of need groups to fourth and third grade students. “We already don’t have any teachers, it can't get any better. And they don’t listen to us… If we don’t do anything, we’re heading towards disaster,” she warns.

Teachers refuse the position

As for the Créteil Academy, we emphasize the efforts made this year to fill all full-time positions and have a large number of replacements. So much so that it can replace “ 99.1% of absences greater than 15 days in all disciplines,” they say at the Académie de Créteil.

However, there remain some areas in tension, particularly in Seine-et-Marne. This is the case in Chelles, where “ three replacements, including two regulars, were assigned but did not take the position », we recall. Recruitment is underway to resolve the problem.

As for the parents, they plan to form a collective very soon, and go to the administrative court if the situation does not change quickly.
