In Brest, “a shock, almost a mourning”: the Les 4B bakery has closed its doors in the Saint-Marc district

In front of its closed door, this Wednesday, June 26, 2024, many customers are still turning back. This small note on white paper, “thanking customers”, simply specifies “cessation of activity”. The managers of the bakery Les 4B, for Breizh Boulangerie Brégeon in Brest, have closed their doors. The Brest commercial court pronounced its liquidation on Tuesday, June 25.

“A particularly symbolic place”

Ardent defender of local businesses and public services, president of the Sain M’art association, and also a candidate in the legislative elections, Geneviève Henry laments: “It’s a shock, almost a mourning in Saint-Marc. Another local business, a place particularly symbolic of the life of the town which risks disappearing. After that of Guelmeur two years ago, here is the large bakery-pastry shop so famous in the center of Saint-Marc which suddenly closes its doors.”

A regular who thought she would find happiness there at snack time discovered the sad news when she saw the blinds drawn and had to push a (very small) little bit further than usual. Just a few meters away, the neighboring bakery “Le Tamelier de Saint-Marc”, which changed hands at the start of the year, is always full. “It’s true that since Tuesday, things have been a bit on fire. Most customers come to us,” confides a saleswoman. The explosion in electricity costs, various charges and the inability to find a buyer have therefore forced the bosses of 4B to this sad end.
