“We will have to, collectively, succeed in changing our budgetary software.” Under discussion in the Senate, the 2025 Finance Bill promises lively debates on France's Budget. Facing ua debt which is close to 3,300 billion euros and compulsory deductions exceeding “48% of national wealth”the senator from Orne Olivier Bitz believes that the current situation is untenable.
“This trend is not sustainable and it is imperative to succeed in lowering the level of public spending through structural reforms,” he adds.
Reduce the deficit to 5% of GDP
On the objective of reduce the deficit to 5% of GDP by 2025the senator is clear: “What is not realistic at all is to continue on this trajectory of increasing debt and taxes because we are not succeeding in reducing our expenses! ».
He sees this reduction as a first step, before reaching 4% in 2027.
“Increasing the debt amounts to putting the effort to be made on our children and grandchildren,” he warns.
Priority to reducing expenses
In discussions with Michel Barnier's government, the senator underlines the importance of not weakening the economy and employment.
We must clearly prioritize reducing spending that has little impact on the economy compared to new taxes.
Moreover, he strongly criticizes the proposals of certain deputies: “LFI and its allies have proposed to the National Assembly a new fiscal shock of 35 billion euros in additional levies compared to the Government's proposals. It's completely crazy! »
Defend rurality and local communities
Attentive to territorial divides, the senator declares that he wants to defend rurality. “We have already achieved a first success on the important subject of postal presence,” he rejoices.
It will ensure that staff reductions in National Education do not affect schools in rural areas and that the “France Très Haut Débit” plan continues throughout the territory.
As rapporteur for the budget devoted to immigration and integration, he also explains that he will be vigilant to ensure that reductions in appropriations do not compromise the fight against illegal immigration. A subject considered a priority among many French people.
“Produce more wealth”
For the future, the senator believes essential to increase the wealth produced in order to preserve the French social model and finance the ecological transition.
Productivity gains alone will no longer be enough and the very high level of compulsory contributions prevents the taxpayer from being further taxed.
He calls for “reexamining the question of work throughout life, taking into account the demands of justice”.
According to him, “this production of new wealth is the only way to meet the challenges ahead and who will require colossal financial resources in the future.”
In short, the senator from Orne calls for shared budgetary responsibility to control public spending, support rurality and ensure a sustainable future for future generations.
« We are at the beginning of a new cycle which will require lucidity and courage », he concludes.
