An emergency gathering of European leaders. This Tuesday, November 19, several European representatives are expected at a meeting organized by Benjamin Haddad, French Minister for Europe, to discuss measures to take to combat anti-Semitism.
This meeting, organized in Brussels on the sidelines of the General Affairs Council with the Ministers of European Affairs, should have numerous participants in order to find solutions to fight against this scourge, a few days after the violence suffered by supporters of Maccabi Tel-Aviv on the sidelines of a match against Ajax Amsterdam, in the streets of the Dutch city on November 8.
Anti-Semitism to be fought at European level
These attacks, described as anti-Semitic in particular by Israel and the Dutch authorities, left 20 to 30 injured.
This violence occurred in a context of polarization in Europe, with a rise in anti-Semitic, anti-Israeli and Islamophobic acts since the start of the war between Israel and Hamas in Gaza in October 2023.
On CNEWS, Benjamin Haddad notably said he was in favor of the application of European-wide measures to combat anti-Semitism.
“The fight against anti-Semitism, including online hatred, is a fight that we have carried out (at the French level) but it must also be done at the European level,” he declared.
