Pauline Bonaventure has lived in Pontrieux for 5 years. A former public transport employee in the Guingamp-Paimpol urban area, she has always had a taste for books.

And it is thanks to a professional retraining that she decided to begin training at the École de la Librairie, with the aim of opening her own independent establishment. She received support from the Brittany Region, the Initiative Armor Association which supported her in the development of her project and from Active Bretagne.

At the end of this training, Pauline first led a preliminary investigation with the inhabitants of Pontrieux and the surrounding area, and found that it could expand its catchment area beyond the communities adjoining Pontrieux. This is where the adventure began…

We first had to restore the beautiful appearance of this somewhat neglected building on the corner of Place de la Liberté, near the tourist office.

Advice to readers

Pontrieux will now have its own bookstore, good news for all readers.

Brittany is one of the regions of France with the most readers, with one bookstore per 18,600 inhabitants while the national average is one bookstore per 30,000 inhabitants, there is undeniably a love of books in Brittany.

Pauline Bonaventure, bookseller

Pauline Bonaventure also insists on the human relationship which connects with readers and the special advice that an independent bookseller is able to provide to its customers.

We can bet that readers from Pontrieux and elsewhere will be well received and well guided in their choices at Monocle.

It is already possible to commander your favorite books to find them on site, Pauline already has orders for the opening.

The Saturday before Christmas, author Claire Connan will come and sign her detective novel The Raven of the Washhouses. Other activities will be scheduled during the year including a “Harry Potter” evening in February.
