Legislative elections in Indre-et-Loire: an undecided 4th constituency

We take the same and start again. There are five candidates running for the seat of deputy for the 4th constituency of Indre-et-Loire, which covers Joué-lès-Tours, Ballan-Miré and Chinonais. The five were already in the running in 2022. Except that for these 2024 legislative elections, the context is no longer the same since the National Rally came first in all the municipalities in the constituency except Candes-Saint-Martin and Crissay-sur- Manse.

Sophie Lagrée (Les Républicains) and Kévin Gardeau (Lutte Ouvrière) return to the campaign

For outgoing MP Fabienne Colboc (Renaissance), the watchword is to bring people together. The former elected official is banking on the clash between the two blocs RN and New Popular Front (NFP) to come out on top : “The general interest is to have stability because since 2022 we have clearly seen that in the National Assembly it is a little complicated to work with parties which are into invective, provocation. What I advocates is really moderation and stability.” Fabienne Colboc makes purchasing power the priority, “we have decided not to increase taxes, we must continue this policy”.

This theme is also at the heart of the project of Jean-François Bellanger, RN candidate, “that’s why the French put Jordan Bardella in the lead in the Europeans. The French are fed up with the rise in prices, hydrocarbons, energy and rents.” The former gendarme – now a reservist and responsible for security issues in educational establishments – also makes security a strong focus of his campaign, “Violence is increasing in all sectors, whether rural or urban, because yes, rural areas have not been protected for a long time.” The RN candidate – 19.85% of the vote in 2022 – appeals to Republican voters in the hope of moving to the second round, “once is not customary but you have to vote usefully” he said.

Laurent Baumel (NFP) defends a “realistic and financeable” economic program

On the LR side, it is the deputy mayor of Chinon, Sophie Lagrée, who is once again launching into the campaign, brandishing the card of local roots : “It is absolutely necessary that national leaders have local roots, otherwise what happens is that the territories are no longer listened to, with unbearable condescension and elitist behavior. The fact that “I’m in Chinon, so I meet a lot of local people. What’s also important is not to further fracture society and not to divide between urban and rural areas.” Finally, Kévin Gardeau will raise the banner of Lutte Ouvrière, his party rejecting the NFP alliance, “a deception” in his words. “These are empty promises, he adds, like always. They are not the allies of the working classes. The last few decades have proven this. Elections will not change the fate of workers and the exploited, only struggle can do that.”

One less support for the union of the left embodied by Laurent Baumel. The rebellious socialist deputy under Francois Hollande had only lost the constituency by 433 votes in 2022. On France Blue Tourainehe defends the economic program of the NFP (retirement at 60, minimum wage at 1,600 euros net, 10% increase in the index point of civil servants, etc.), ” a left-wing, realistic and financeable program. It is reasonable because it is based on the idea that there are significant tax revenues that the state has forgone for years. There is the wealth tax, we can tax the super profits of multinationals more, there are all the tax gifts paid to large companies which reuse them to pay dividends and which do not finance jobs or the real economy. It is not a revolutionary program but a disruptive program in the sense that it involves changing the logic of the economic and social approach. .
