This Tuesday, June 25, the Vatican and the Catholic Church in Belgium revealed the motto of the papal visit to our country. It will therefore be… “On the road with Hope”! A slogan that resonates like “a call for renewal and optimism”.

Need we remind you again: Pope Francis will visit our country from September 26 to 29. Despite many questions surrounding this exceptional visit, fueled by a certain secret behind the scenes, preparations are progressing quickly. Proof of this is with the revelation of the motto and the logo under which the pontifical visit will be placed.

It is therefore “En route avec Esperance” which will be the official motto of the French-speaking side. – “Hoopvol onderweg” among our northern neighbors. A choice carefully considered by the Belgian national committee in charge of organizing the papal trip: “The motto “On the road with Hope” resonates as a call for renewal and optimism.”

If we break down this slogan, the expression “En route” refers to the dynamic of movement that the Belgian Church tries to embody on a daily basis: “The Catholic Church in Belgium is a community on the move, active, serving the common good and engaged in constructive dialogue with all components of society” explains the press release. The second part refers to hope which, in the Christian tradition, “is a force that propels forward, that comforts and that inspires.”

“Hope invites each person to envision a better future, where everyone is an actor of change and reconciliation.”

A path that we find in the logo

SA path is drawn on the map of Belgium, in the middle of which stands the figure of the Pope, dressed all in white. Around him, several people of various sexes, ages and colors are walking together in the same direction. This feeling of brotherhood is further reinforced by the presence of a person in a wheelchair.

“Pope Francis walks among the faithful of all ages and all origins” we are told in addition to this logo. “It encourages them to contribute to a more just world and to participate in the life and future of the Church.”
