DAKAR, Nov. 17 (Xinhua) — This Sunday’s legislative elections are taking place “satisfactorily throughout the national territory and abroad,” said the Autonomous National Electoral Commission (CENA), the body responsible for of the supervision of elections in Senegal.
“Citizens have exercised or continue to exercise their right to vote in calm, peace and discipline,” added the CENA in a press release published at midday.
She stressed that “no major malfunction has been reported so far”, recalling that she “has a controller in each of the 15,633 polling stations spread across the entire national territory as well as in the 807 polling stations established abroad.
Out of a sample of 553 control polling stations, 93.2% of stations opened their doors at 8:00 a.m. (local time and GMT). The CENA also indicated that voting is taking place normally in 98.76% of stations, that electoral materials are complete in 99.1% of them and that security forces are present in 95.66% of stations.■
