Saturday, November 16, the traveling exhibition of the Gal Nord-Ouest (Local Action Group) was inaugurated at the Awala-Yalimapo carbet. This exhibition, made up of photos and explanatory texts, highlights the 78 projects carried out thanks to the European LEADER program in Western Guyanese. From the traveling grocery store to the tourist hut: all these local projects energize the area.
A traveling grocery store, a tourist carbet, the creation of a circus or even a market in Mana : these examples are part of the 78 projects carried out and financed thanks to the European LEADER program in Western Guyanese, over the last six years.
All these projects are presented in a traveling exhibition inaugurated this Saturday, November 16, at the Awala-Yalimapo community carbet.
“There are also local service projects, entertainment programs for young people supported by associations, but also sporting and creative activities,” explains Marion Rodet Kajirale, coordinator and facilitator of the GAL Nord-Ouest (Local Action Group).
This morning, the traveling exhibition was inaugurated by the 7th vice-president of the CCOG, Jean-Paul Fereira, members of the GAL, associative project leaders, individual companies and partners. “The exhibition will then travel to five other municipalities, starting with Mana next Thursday, then Saint-Laurent du Maroni the following week, explains Marion Rodet Kajirale, coordinator and facilitator of the GAL Nord-Ouest (Local Action Group). It will also go to Apatou and Grand-Santi.
Since 2016 and until this year, the European LEADER funding program has supported numerous project leaders in Guyana. “All respond to a territorial strategy, on a theme, explains Marion Rodet Kajirale. The LEADER program supports associations, communities, but also public establishments over six years.
This LEADER program is managed by GAL Nord-Ouest (Local Action Group), made up of private and public stakeholders, all stakeholders in the region. They are the ones who manage the financial envelope and allocate aid to project leaders.
This traveling exhibition aims to promote these different projects by presenting their creation with photos and some explanations.
“We also hope that this will give ideas to other project leaders, that it will have a snowball effect afterwards, with one idea encouraging another”hopes Marion Rodet Kajirale, coordinator and facilitator of the North-West GAL.
A new LEADER program will start at the beginning of 2025. Next year, the CCOG will also carry out an FEDER program for the eight municipalities in the region. Enough to encourage local initiatives.
