In 1998, Variety magazine wrote that “the Toronto Film Festival is second only to the Cannes Film Festival in terms of star presence and economic activity.” He has since become an important partner of Hollywood. The festival is sometimes even considered as a first trial run towards the Oscars. Well, in 2024, the Petit Journal testifies that the Biscarrosse Festival of Quebec cinema has continued to grow since its creation and that very quickly, it will become a reference in our territory. Sylvain Garel is the Festival programmer, he was vice-president of the French Union of Cinema Critics and it is at the beginning of November at the Le Renoir cinema in Biscarrosse that the feature films he has selected are screened. During this Festival, short films and films aimed at young audiences from primary schools to high schools were presented. This 9th edition reached a new stage with the arrival of two exceptional juries: Laurent Lucas, Axelle Laffont and Olivier Guignard for the proclamation of the winners and the presentation of trophies for the feature films and Karine Rio Gardère, Lola Breton and Jérôme Chibrac for the short films. Meetings with prestigious guests such as Pedro Ruiz, Nathalie Saint-Pierre, Anh Minh Truong and Félix Rose were organized to facilitate immersion in Quebec culture. Each screening demonstrated the success of this event: the public responded regardless of the day or time. Séverine Cramette, general delegate of the Festival, assisted by Étienne Marche and a whole team of volunteers, public and private partners, can be proud of the work accomplished.
