The Olympique Lyonnais goalkeeper, retired from the Chilean selection for more than six months now, spoke to CNN about her choice and the “bad conditions” observed during the gatherings with her selection.
On November 1, Christiane Endler decided to end her international career with Chile after 104 appearances with her country and “more than 15 years within the youth teams and with the A team” indicated Olympique Lyonnais on its social networks. OL goalkeeper since 2021 and her departure from Paris Saint-Germain, recently explained her decision to CNN.

The 32-year-old player notably confided having “abandoned” her dream “due to poor conditions”. “When I decided to retire, I was called a traitor, that I was abandoning the group… But no one was interested in why I was doing it,” she explained, recalling “a moment where we must prioritize our health and well-being.”
The latter especially regretted the conditions offered to the Chilean selection. “We have to fight anew every time for basic things. We weren’t asking for anything extraordinary: hot showers, available toilets, a gym without a mat full of mushrooms,” she regrets. Extended by OL at the end of 2023, Christiane Endler then participated in Lyon’s journey to the Champions League final as well as the Arkema D1 coronation.
