Saturday November 16, at the Georges-Leygues theater, at 8 p.m., “A door must be open or closed” is a proverb in one act by Alfred de Musset published in 1845 in the revue des deux mondes and performed for the first time in this revolutionary year of 1848. One hurricane evening, a marquise and a count unexpectedly find themselves face to face. The weather disturbance forces them to not leave the place and find a resolution to their procrastination. Through this duo which confronts two exceptional performers behind closed doors, Christèle Tual and Thibault de Montalembert, Musset works on the question of love or rather the truth of its expression in literature. Over time, Musset's work can echo in many ways that of Marguerite Duras. They are both love writers. This theme has been that of writing for their entire lives. This is indeed one of Musset's talents, that of being crossed and suddenly the writing springs forth with an obviousness and a clarity which make him a singular being in the romantic landscape.
