Interior Minister Bruno Retailleau was on an official trip to Metz (Moselle) this Friday, November 15, 2024.
The opportunity for him to meet municipal and national police officers, visit the metropolitan urban supervision center and the General Secretariat for the Administration of the Ministry of the Interior (Sgami).
To end his day in Moselle, Bruno Retailleau allowed time for discussion with the press. Travelers, OQTF, immigration…Here's what came out.
Travelers: “The law is the same for everyone”
Bruno Retailleau was asked about Travelers: “ The law is the same for everyone. Elected officials are exasperated to see caravans illegally occupying land, when there are reception areas. Our compatriots are exasperated when illegal connections are observed, electricity or water is diverted, and the land is not made clean. This is not tolerable. It is out of the question to have a form of dual citizenship, those who comply with the rules and those who could escape them.”
The Minister of the Interior will bring together a working group which will have to determine a new intervention doctrine and a new arsenal to hit the wallet (carry out asset investigations, be able to seize property, sanction for repairs).
This group will have to submit its conclusions before spring so that a text can then be passed.
“We are pursuing the objective of holding our borders”
Concerning border controls, Bruno Retailleau recalled that it was a prolongation : “Six months in six months, since the Bataclan, we have decided to reestablish these controls. I am on the 18th request to the European Commission. Germany just did it.”
The minister explains that he reassured Luxembourg on this subject, affirming his desire not to want to bother cross-border workers and that nothing was changing. Concerning Germany's controls, he believes that the strategy should be adjusted.
“We are pursuing the objective of holding our borders,” declares Bruno Retailleau.
A fight against irregular immigration
The latter took the opportunity to take stock of the question of irregular immigration against which he says he fights. A fight shared by all European peoples, according to him.
The minister explains having a three-step strategy : international by developing bilateral agreements, European by modifying the return directive and national with two circulars (one to manage immigration in each department, the other for the question of professions in shortage).
On this last subject, Bruno Retailleau explains that the aim is to restrict and carry out checks “to dismantle illegal immigration networks. It is not enough to have a job to be integrated. We must also verify, this is what the law says, that we respect the principles of the Republic. »
Firmness in the face of irregular situations
On the question of OQTF (obligations to leave French territory) and irregular situationsBruno Retailleau is firm: “It is not because we have been in an irregular situation for 2 or 3 years that we have a right to regularization. If we do not assume this firmness, we will no longer be able to enforce our rules. »
Anti-Semitic acts: “I will not let things pass without reacting”
Regarding the France-Israel football match organized at the Stade de France, Bruno Retailleau ensures that it was held in good conditions “before, during and after. There was no question of France abdicating to the sowers of hatred. »
On the subject of anti-Semitic acts, he recognizes that there are more than 1,000 of them in the first seven months of the year alone: “It is not not tolerable. »
” THE first victims are our compatriots of Jewish faith and I will not let things pass without reacting, we did it symbolically for the match, and I will continue to do it,” the minister firmly assures.
