This Thursday, November 14, a second outbreak was identified in a duck farm, in this same town in the south of Landes.
“These animals had been vaccinated against HPAI, in accordance with regulations,” indicates the Landes prefecture in a press release. To prevent the spread of the virus, a euthanasia operation for the 6,000 animals present on the farm is being implemented from November 14. »
An epidemiological investigation is being carried out by the services of the Departmental Directorate of Employment, Labor, Solidarity and Population Protection (DDETSPP) to determine whether epidemiological links exist between the two outbreaks.
An ongoing investigation
The prefectural decree of November 7, determining a regulated perimeter around the first outbreak remains. Namely a protection zone, within a radius of 3 kilometers from the first outbreak (it concerns eight municipalities, namely Orist, Pey, Port-de-Lanne, Saint-Étienne-d'Orthe, Saint-Jean-de-Marsacq, Saint-Lon-les-Mines, Sainte-Marie-de-Gosse and Saint-Martin-de-Hinx) and a surveillance zone within the 10 kilometer radius of this outbreak (20 municipalities concerned).
“In this context, the prefecture renews its call for strict compliance, by each actor in the sector, with all biosecurity and surveillance measures falling under its responsibility. » The same recommendations are addressed to individuals who keep backyard and ornamental birds.
