The municipal caves of Régulus, in Meschers-sur-Gironde, end the season (March 30-November 3) with a record 92,000 visitors! As a reminder, the year 2023 welcomed nearly 85,000 visitors. From year to year, the entertainment team does everything possible to attract a demanding clientele who not only want to visit the place but also enjoy original entertainment.
New developments and cultural events enlivened the entire season with, in April, the arrival of the Garde Chauvin for the 210th anniversary of the scuttling of the Regulus, which launched a historic and imperial weekend. The jazz concert in May on the terrace of the caves, above the estuary, had a particular flavor that was much appreciated. The “Minidik” treasure hunt, the Cagouille Rally for children, but also the guided tours, strolls and nighttime tours have of course had an impact on this success. It goes without saying that the troupe of amateur actors “Les Passagers du Régulus” also contributed to the success with its renewed show which, every summer, offers a nighttime opportunity to discover the history of the Michelaise city through colorful characters.
The store doubles its sales
At the end of the summer, the Sentiers des arts welcomed two magnificent giraffes, contemporary art creations by sculptor Gleb Dusavitskiy, on the Square de la Guicharde overlooking the caves. Visitors were also able to admire the spectacle of the dancing creatures of the Marquesas Fly, a performance which caused a sensation. All these activities contributed to the appeal of the site.
The cave shop, an essential stopover during the visit, also experienced exceptional attendance and doubled its sales, offering a wider range of products and souvenirs, very popular with visitors.
With increasing attendance and an enriched offer, the 2024 season of the Régulus caves ends on a very positive note. The caves closed on November 3, they will reopen next April.
