After the death of Corporal Vasil Bychyk, of the 16th Foot Hunter Battalion [BCP] occurred in Djibouti on October 30, the Army was once again in mourning after an accident which cost the life of Quartermaster Fany Claudin, assigned to the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon [FINUL].
According to the Ministry of the Armed Forces, belonging to the 121st Train Regiment [RT]this young woman was fatally injured in a road accident, while she was participating in an operational mission to escort a logistical convoy between Dayr Kifa and Naqoura.
“Despite rapid treatment by a doctor from the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon, the medical team could only note the death of Marshal Claudin,” explains the ministry. And to specify that she was “deployed in external operations in Lebanon since the beginning of November, within UNIFIL, as part of Operation Daman”.
Born January 16, 2001 in Annemasse [Haute-Savoie]Fany Claudin joined the 121st RT as a non-commissioned soldier when she had just celebrated her nineteenth birthday. Assigned as a motorcyclist to the 2nd traffic and escort squadron, she was promoted to brigadier after completing her basic general training in October 2021.
After taking part in Operation Sentinel as team leader, she was assigned to the Desert Logistics battle group “Jura”, then deployed in Niger, between October 2022 and February 2023. Then, having stood out, during of Exercise Orion, as a PVP pilot [Petit Véhicule Protégé] and as a motorcycle dispatch rider, she was admitted to the National School of Active Non-Commissioned Officers [ENSOA] via semi-direct recruitment.
“Assiduous in her physical and intellectual preparation, she obtained her military certificate No. 1 in April 2024 with remarkable results,” recalls her hierarchy.
As a couple, without children, Quartermaster Fany Claudin was decorated with the Combatant's Cross, the Overseas Medal with “Sahel” clasp, the Military Territorial Protection Medal with the “Sentinel” clasp and the National Defense Bronze Medal.
“Great sadness at the announcement of the accidental death of Marshal Fany Claudin during a road accident that occurred during an operational convoy escort mission in Lebanon.
Engaged within the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon, as part of Operation Daman, she contributed daily to supporting the force working to restore peace. I associate myself with the pain of his family, his loved ones and his brothers in arms of the 121st RT and assure them of the support of the French armies,” reacted General Thierry Burkhard, the Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces.
