Roundabouts and tolls blocked, radars covered, signs torn down… Farmers' discontent rises and gets organized across France this week. After the general mobilization at the start of the year, new large-scale demonstrations are planned in France by the end of the month.
Farmers are once again expressing their weariness, frustration and anger at the government's inaction. In the Occitanie region, actions have already taken place this Thursday in Narbonne, and others are announced near Toulouse. What about Perpignan and the Pyrénées-Orientales?
New blockage on the A9 motorway
Many motorists in the department are wondering about possible blockages planned for the coming days in the department. The answer came this Friday: Rural Coordination 66 announces a new major blockage on the A9 motorway from Tuesday November 19on the antenna of France Blue Roussillon.
As last February, the union is preparing to block the large Perthus toll barrier, at Boulou. “There will be blockages from Spain to France and it will last”they announce to our colleagues.
Motorists will not be blocked, they specify, but it is a safe bet that this action will cause significant traffic jams on the A9 and secondary roads around the border.
Press release from the Pyrénées-Orientales prefecture
“As part of a social movement in the agricultural sector announced for Tuesday, November 19, traffic difficulties are expected on the motorway network, particularly on the A9 from Spain and towards France.
Drivers of light vehicles, anticipate your trips and favor secondary roads.”
Other farmers will not demonstrate
For their part, the FDSEA 66 and the Young Farmers 66the two main agricultural unions in the Catalan country will not participate in this demonstration. At least for now. They announced it in a press release this morning.
“Our situation is specificwe are one of the rare departments in France to suffer a persistent drought while all the others have too much water. In these conditions following her visit to the Eastern Pyrenees, we have just sent a letter to the Minister of Agriculture to remind her of our meeting and above all to offer to work with her on the measures necessary for our farmers. they indicate.
“We are awaiting his response. Therefore, if nothing is considered, if nothing conclusive is proposed to us, then we will ask you to act together and speak with one voice,” conclude the unions, who do not rule out joining the movement in a second time.
