Over the past two years, in a context of energy shortage, the Municipality had decided not to eliminate the end-of-year illuminations but to restrict their duration and times. This year, the energy situation has returned to normal and the old schedules have been restored.

“End-of-year holiday lighting contributes significantly to the festive atmosphere and consumes little electricity. In Lausanne, garlands and other decorations are regularly maintained and replaced by more efficient models. They consume around 8,000 kWh, or around 0.001% of the city’s overall annual electricity consumption,” explains Xavier Company, municipal and director of Industrial Services of Lausanne (SiL).

Twelve paintings

Due to the closure of Place de la Riponne for work, a projection will be made on the Bel-Air tower. It will shine thanks to a mapping on the theme of plant and animal biodiversity, in honor of Lausanne’s parks and gardens. Twelve tables are planned, i.e. a loop of around 30 minutes. The screening will take place from November 20 to December 31, 2024, from 5:30 p.m. and until 9, 10 p.m. or 11 p.m., like the times of Bô Noël, and until 12:30 a.m. on New Year’s Eve.

At Place de la Palud, the Town Hall will attract eyes and ears thanks to a 15-minute sound and light projection “Icy Tales of the Past”. This show will be screened ten days before Christmas, from December 13 to 24 at 5:30 p.m., 6:30 p.m., 7:30 p.m., 8:30 p.m. With a break on December 14 for the Christmas Run.

Street lighting

New light events are still planned to enchant the city center: on the last flight of the University stairs, Vesuvius will light up and sparkle as passers-by pass by; at Place de la Madeleine, the balustrade will be outlined with torches with moving flames visible from Place de la Riponne and Rue du Tunnel; Along the Market stairs, the lanterns will be decorated with figurative and abstract motifs from the Cathedral’s stained glass windows.

The street decorations will be lit from November 19, 2024, until 11 p.m. each evening. The decorations on the Terreaux-Bel-Air axis will be reinstalled this year. The Louve swings will also return until January 12 with lighting and will remain without lighting until April. Finally, the Cathedral will emerge in the Lausanne sky with its festive lighting until December 31.
