Wanted Antwerp drug lord delivered to Belgium

Stabroek drug lord Tom Michielsen was transferred from his Berlin cell to Belgium and is currently in Dendermonde prison, the Antwerp public prosecutor’s office confirmed on Saturday. It has been three years since Tom Michielsen appeared on the list of Europe’s most wanted criminals after being sentenced in Belgium to eight years in prison for bribing a customs officer. He was placed under arrest warrant in Berlin in April.

The baron had been on the run since 2020. He was sentenced to eight years in prison in Belgium for bribing a customs officer to import a large shipment of cocaine and heroin. He was previously also sentenced to 11 years in prison in the Netherlands for cocaine and heroin trafficking and money laundering.

He managed to evade law enforcement for years and was on Europe’s most wanted list for three years. In 2020, he narrowly escaped a police raid on his villa in Spain. He then took refuge in Germany, where he was arrested in a restaurant in April. Since then, he has been imprisoned in a Berlin prison.

In the meantime, an appeal has been lodged against his conviction in Belgium. The case will go to court in September.
