“Like every year, the Department is ready to adapt to the weather conditions and bring out the salt spreaders and snow plows as soon as the need arises,” says Bernard Perazio, vice-president in charge of mobility and public construction. As temperatures begin to drop and the first snowflakes have arrived this week, the Department of Isère is activating its winter viability plan this Friday, November 15 and until March 15. A departmental plan based on four principles: permanent monitoring, prioritization of the network according to geographical location and service issues, definition of traffic conditions, commitment to results on a level of service for each type of road .
There are 300 agents, 100 seasonal employees and six million euros who are mobilized as soon as weather conditions deteriorate to clear snow and treat against ice across the entire network, i.e. 4,701 kilometers of roads, including 1,050 located at more than 800 meters above sea level.
Since 2020, the Mountain law requires drivers to equip their vehicles with snow tires, chains, socks or all-season tires from November 1 to March 31 in mountain areas.
