Those who saw it probably found it hard to believe. And his image, posted by the mayor of Sables-d'Olonne, Yannick Moreau, is starting to make the rounds on social networks: a white wallaby was seen in the town, yesterday Wednesday November 13, 2024.
The scene took place in a sparsely urbanized area of the Olonne-sur-Mer district, not far from Pierre-Levée.
“I passed along the Alexandre–Solzhenitsyn road where I noticed that the municipal police were doing traffic,” said a witness to the scene at Sand Journal.
“I wondered what was happening, because there were so many of them: there was a white wallaby in the field. »
The town hall of Les Sables-d'Olonne confirms that an intervention has indeed taken place, mobilizing the municipal police and a specialized fire brigade team.
Although it lasted several hours, it did not cause any major disruption in the neighborhood.
A private owner
Eventually, the animal was able to be recovered at the beginning of the afternoon and “returned in good health” to its owner.
This owner is not the Sables-d'Olonne zoo, but an individual residing in the town. The town hall specifies:
“This owner has all the necessary authorizations. »
The wallaby is a small kangaroo. Albino specimens remain relatively rare and fragile in the wild.
