Accident, double British Olympic track cycling champion Katie Archibald must throw in the towel.

Double British Olympic track cycling champion Katie Archibald broke her leg in her garden and will miss the Paris 2024 Games, she herself announced Thursday on her social networks.

“I tripped on a step in the garden and somehow managed to dislocate my ankle, fracture my tibia and fibula and tear two ligaments from the bone.”wrote the 30-year-old champion Thursday on Instagram in a comment on a photo of herself on a hospital bed. “I had surgery yesterday (Wednesday) to put the bones back into place and reattach the ligaments. I hope I can go home this afternoon.”she adds, confirming that she is de facto renouncing the Paris Olympic Games (July 26-August 11).

Medalist in Rio and Tokyo

Archibald, gold medalist in the team pursuit at the Rio 2016 Olympics and the American Olympics at Tokyo 2021, should have participated in Paris in the team pursuit, the Madison and the omnium. In a press release, the British Cycling Federation deplored its absence at Paris-2024.

“Our focus now is on providing Katie with the best possible support during her recovery, and we know the entire cycling community will be behind her every step of the way.”, adds British Cycling. Archibald has just had two particularly difficult years. She missed the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham after a collision with a vehicle, while her partner, mountain biker Rab Wardell, died suddenly the same year aged 37.
