The price of a panel of Burgundy grand cru reaches new heights at auction

This Tuesday, Maison Drouot and Interéchés organized an auction of several panels of Burgundy grand cru appellations in (Côte-d'Or). In total, 600 panels were offered to wine lovers, wishing to own a part of Burgundy's wine heritage. Certain lots with prestigious names have seen their prices soar, report our colleagues from Bleu.

After several years of good and loyal service at the edge of the vineyards, these panels were damaged, or even outdated according to the new nomenclature in force. The Interprofessional Burgundy Wine Bureau (BIVB) therefore had the idea of selling these remains through an auction. All proceeds will be donated to the Cité des Climats et des Vins de Bourgogne.

A panel sold for 4,300 euros

Among all the panels proposed, some were part of the “presidents’ lot”. That of “Grands-Echezeaux Grand Cru”, for example, was sold for 3,500 euros. A few hours later, the “Richebourg-Grand Cru” appellation found a buyer at 4,300 euros. At this price, buyers also won a meal for four people at Clos de Vougeot as well as a bottle of 2021 grand cru from the eponymous estate.

The auction, which also took place on the Internet, generated 107,000 euros in revenue. The latter precedes the very prestigious Hospices de Beaune wine sale which will take place this Sunday. Led by Sotheby's, this charity event raised more than 23 million euros in 2023.
