One month before the potential arrival of Pope Francis in Ajaccio, the program is starting to take shape.

A time expected to spend two days on the island, the sovereign pontiff would ultimately only stay the single day of Sunday December 15.

Arriving in the morning by plane, he should be received by the President of the Republic Emmanuel Macron and a delegation of ministers.

Then head to the convention center in a popemobile, which she also arrived by plane to take part in a conference on popular piety in the Mediterranean.

Several religious stops could also take place in the heart of Ajaccio, including a meeting with the Corsican clergy at the cathedral.

After a procession, the sovereign pontiff should celebrate a religious service at the beginning of the afternoon in the imperial city, but the final location has not yet been fixed.

If Casone seems to be prioritized with access via Cours Grandval, des Anglais or Boulevard Madame-Mère, a secondary solution is being studied: that of Place Miot which would accommodate as many or even more people.

The Pope would return to Rome that same evening.

If for the moment the Holy See has not made anything official, delegations from the Vatican and the Elysée are expected in Corsica at the end of the week to study all the logistical aspects, notably security, public access and parking. Discussions are also still underway on the precise route.

So far, no comments have been made by the Diocese of Corsica, but formalization is likely to take place by the end of the week.

Several tens of thousands of people could participate in the event. Many hotels are fully booked for this historic weekend.
