The Department of Landes has just inaugurated two new structures, L'Escale de vie in Larrivière-Saint-Savin and the Maison d'Enfants à Caractère Social (MECS) Les Grenadiers in Grenade-sur-l'Adour, to meet the needs growing number of vulnerable children in its territory. These establishments, intended for young people monitored by Child Welfare (ASE), aim to offer places to live and respite in a structured and caring environment. With the 14% increase in placements between 2015 and 2022, the Department is actively committed to offering adapted and secure care solutions.
A micro-boarding school to break isolation
Located at 44 avenue de l'Adour, in Larrivière-Saint-Savin, the L'Escale de vie structure defines itself as a “micro-boarding school”. Capable of accommodating six children aged 8 to 16, it is a place where young people, often placed in foster families or in ASE establishments, can come during weekends and school holidays to recharge their batteries. This initiative is supported by the L'Escale association, which also manages a day center in Castandet.
In this house decorated in Halloween colors during the inauguration, young people benefit from a warm and family space. The L'Escale de vie educational team, led by Brice Tran Trong, is made up of three specialized educators, an educational instructor, an educational and social support person and a facilitator. Their role is to supervise and guide young people in various daily and educational activities, such as the management of collective life, leisure activities, and ecological awareness.
This team of professionals is involved in the heart of the community, in order to propose projects that benefit both young people and their social environment. Educational activities include bio-waste management workshops, moments of sharing around meals and health prevention actions. Each young person has personalized support, designed to promote their growth and development in a structured and calming environment.
