In the overseas departments and territories, particularly in Mayotte, Stellantis began its recall campaign for Takata airbags on the Citroën C3 and DS3, produced between 2009 and 2019, in September 2020. Yesterday, the automobile group launched a new call for drivers who own these potentially dangerous vehicles.
Stellantis is renewing its recall campaign to Citroën C3 and DS3 owners so that they have their Takata airbag checked and replaced, the cause of several fatal accidents in recent years, particularly overseas.
Yesterday, in a press release, Safae Choukkrani, Account Manager of Stratëus Group which is supporting Stellantis in this thorny issue, explains:Stellantis is launching an urgent appeal to Citroën C3 and DS3 drivers in Mayotte to invite them to check if their vehicle is affected by this recall campaign. Due to local climatic conditions, including hot and humid climate, some chemical components of Takata airbags may deteriorate over time. This alteration could, in certain cases, lead to inadequate deployment of the airbag and expose the driver to the risk of serious injury, or death in the worst scenario.“
And the press release also explains “Despite significant progress in the campaign (nearly 84% of the vehicles concerned have been treated), some drivers have not yet taken this step. We encourage these owners to check their vehicle on:

by entering their serial number, then contact SMCI for a quick, free intervention lasting less than two hours.“
A new recall which comes as the manufacturer has been questioned for its late consideration of the potential dangerousness of these Japanese-made airbags, the cause of several accidents.
