Several weeks after the damning report from the regional chamber of accounts of on the Auch hospital, savings were quick to be put in place.

A contractual nursing assistant position has just been eliminated in the multi-purpose medicine department. The CGT has just launched an indefinite strike in this department since Tuesday, November 12 and wants to mobilize the rest of the hospital staff.

Our hospital would show a deficit of ten million euros, so management wants to save money. She eliminated the position of a contract nursing assistant in the multi-purpose medicine department from one day to the next. However, this service manages 22 very heavy patients, sometimes in acute crisis or in palliative care, who require a lot of care. Today the workload has become too heavy for the existing teams.

According to this union official, the caregivers would no longer arrive “to keep up with the pace”. They would finish toileting and treating patients only after 1:30 p.m., thus delaying the patients' lunch. The union must meet with management this Tuesday afternoon to find a solution to this crisis.

This Tuesday 100% of the staff of this multipurpose medicine service are on strike. “We work because we are assigned but we are supported by the entire service, including nurses and hospital workers. The entire service is on strike,” specifies Célia Diaz.

Our service is understaffed. We started negotiations with management this Tuesday but they want to implement a reorganization. However, the working conditions imposed are not acceptable. What we expect from our management is to put this nursing assistant position back in place. There are also fears that other departments at the hospital will be impacted by job cuts. We have to come together.

Job cuts that could affect other services. In fact, last October, the Occitanie regional audit chamber strongly criticized the Auch Hospital Center in a recent report.

Arecord absenteeism, non-existent control, poorly prepared accounts and hidden deficits, this report highlighted the risks that the current management of the Gers establishment posed to its future rehabilitation.

But on the side of caregivers and unions, we are worried about these possible reorganizations. “We have an overly aging population, we need to preserve quality of care,” specifies Célia Paz.

The CGT union of CH d'Auch has filed an unlimited strike notice for this multi-purpose medicine service. A meeting with management is scheduled for this Tuesday.
