During the night of this Sunday 10 to this Monday 11 November 2024the Hérault firefighters responded to a high-velocity traffic accident on the Place de la République, in Florensac.


A car crashed into several parked vehicles. When emergency services arrived, a 20-year-old young man was found unconscious in the vehicle involved. Despite resuscitation attempts on site, he could not be saved and died.

Unclear circumstances

The circumstances of the accident still remain unclear. No indication has been given as to the reasons which led to this collision. The authorities have launched an investigation to understand the causes of the tragedy and verify the allegations of excessive speed and dangerous driving put forward by witnesses.

Vincent Gaudymayor of Florensac, went to the scene of the accident during the night. Deeply affected, he shared his incomprehension in the face of this tragedy. “For me, it’s an unrealistic scene. The firefighters did everything they could to resuscitate this young man. » The mayor of Florensac does not hide his indignation at this accident, which he unreservedly attributes to excessive speed: “For me, it’s because we wanted to go hard. » In addition, Vincent Gaudy insists on the “luck” that this accident took place in the middle of the night, when few people were still traveling: “There are people in the street, at the bistro… witnesses saw him do it. urban rodeo for a while. »

He deplores that this fatal accident occurs despite the safety measures put in place to limit the risks of fast driving in the city: “I am appalled to see that we can die in the city center while the town hall is making adjustments, so that there are devices in place to limit speed to 30 km/h. »
