Lucas Henveaux did not miss his post-Olympic return, this Saturday, in Ghent during the first day of the Belgian championships in the 25m pool. A little less than four months after the Olympics where he reached the semi-finals of the 200 m freestyle and broke the Belgian records over this distance and over 800 m, the Liégeois won the 400 m freestyle, his distance favorite, in 3.37.23, improving by 68 hundredths his own national record (3.37.91) established last year during the Euro in Bucharest, where he won the bronze medal.

This time allowed him to do better than the time limit (3.38.57) for the 25m World Championships in Budapest (December 10-15) but he is hesitant to go for the moment. “As I had long planned a vacation to South Africa from November 24 to December 4, this would force me to cancel it,” he says. “I will see during this weekend if I manage to qualify for other events; This could have an influence on my choice. In any case, I am a little surprised by my time. I was expecting to swim 3.38-3.40 but it was easier than expected. I felt good in the water, flexible and efficient.”

Her sister Camille also got off to a good start in her “national” as she won the 200m freestyle in 1.58.54, a new personal best. Roos Vanotterdijk, for his part, won two first titles in the 100m butterfly, with a new personal best of 57.63, and in the 50m backstroke in 26.62.
