Originally from Reunion Island, Mila, 23, is embarking on an initiatory journey to Mayotte, the cradle of the traditions of her mother, Samawya. Although the latter passed on to her the cultural richness of her childhood through passionate stories, she always avoided talking about a painful past, marked by a polygamous father who remained in Mayotte.
For Mila, who only visited the island once at the age of thirteen, this trip represents much more than a simple university stopover: it is an opportunity to discover traditions and social values that she only knew through hearsay.
On site, Mila is confronted with a world that mixes modernity and ancestral customs. His university project quickly becomes a pretext for a deep personal quest. As she explores matriarchal Mahoran society, she finds herself facing long-unanswered questions about her origins and the absent father figure of her childhood.
