Sports atmosphere at the Sainte-Marie private school in Chaumes-en-Retz (Loire-Atlantique), on June 7. Remember where we come from

Anthony Charteau, cyclist and also a former student of Sainte-Marie school, also made his presence known and led workshops with the children during this dynamic and joyful morning. The two athletes, both born in 1979, are the school’s godfathers.

Today, Mickaël Landreau works as a consultant specializing in football for Canal +. Despite a very busy schedule, he continues to balance his role as a family man, consultant and former professional footballer.

“You have to be curious”

In front of the students, the former footballer of the France team spoke a lot about the importance of remembering where we come from and our roots. “I was a very attentive person, I always listened to my masters and mistresses, even if I was sometimes a little dynamic and did some stupid things,” remembers the former Caletian schoolboy.

“The better you do in school, the better it will be for your career tomorrow. You have to be curious, ask your teachers lots of questions and above all, have a smile on your face all the time. »

Mickaël Landreau explains how he became a footballer: “I started playing football at 5 years old. I think it’s thanks to my older brother who is 12 years older than me. I was always by his side and I wanted to be like him. Besides, he was better than me at the start. »

The athlete explains: “I considered football as a game, something to have fun with. I worked well, I was good at school. »

You also need a lot of courage, mentality, self-confidence and being well surrounded. I was lucky to have parents who were very present and who supported me in my choices. They always listened to me and let me decide. »

80 matches and 11 selections

The one who played 80 matches, had 11 caps for the French team and was a junior 43 times began his professional career at 17 “and I finished it at 35. I was detected and spotted during matches. I went to study sports in 4th and 3rd grade in St-Sébastien sur Loire and I was approached by the Nantes football club. I entered the training center in second grade. »

Dad of two boys

Mickaël Landreau has two boys aged 6 and 9. “They do football as well as tennis, swimming, music and English because I think it’s important for their future. I just want them to be happy and have fun. I therefore support them in all their projects and desires. »
