Initiated in partnership with the Moroccan Embassy in the United Kingdom, under the theme “Resolution of the artificial conflict around the Moroccan Sahara: a Moroccan-British perspective”, this event saw the participation of a host of experts and eminent personalities, who underlined the “fundamental” role of Morocco in the stability and security of the Sahel region in accordance with the Enlightened Vision of His Majesty King Mohammed VI.

The round table was notably moderated by Professor Marc Weller, Chair of International Law and International Constitutional Studies at the University of Cambridge, Sir Mark Lyall Grant, former National Security Advisor of the United Kingdom and former representative of the United Kingdom to the UN, Mbarka Bouaida, President of the Guelmim Oued-Noun region and Hassan Hami, diplomat and writer.

The speakers exchanged different perspectives related to the artificial conflict around the Moroccan Sahara including legal, geopolitical, economic and human development points of view, while highlighting the position of the British government and the opportunity for its evolution in a national context. and international in change.

In light of the elements presented, the speakers highlighted the opportunity for the United Kingdom to align itself with the current momentum of the international community which largely supports the Moroccan autonomy plan as the only credible solution to resolve this regional dispute.

The exhibitors also expressed their deep concern about the alarming humanitarian situation prevailing in the Tindouf camps in Algeria and warned against the exploitation of the status quo in favor of the spread of extremism and terrorism in the region.

Discussions on the development of the southern provinces and the implementation of advanced regionalization allowed participants to learn about concrete progress on the ground.

Around twenty high-level participants took part in this unique round table, including official members of the British Foreign Office and the Ministry of Defense, former British ministers and diplomats, in addition to experts and researchers in the field. geopolitics and defense.
