Until spring 2025,e Grand Immersive Palace invites you to dive into the fascinating digital universe of Miguel Chevalier with an exhibition entirely devoted to the French artist. True sensory journey between the real and the virtual through interactive works, PIXELS promises to captivate young and old alike.
Miguel Chevalier, a monument of digital art
In the world of digital art, Miguel Chevalier acts as a size. French artist born in Mexico in 1959, pioneer in his field since the 1980s, he has exhibited all over the world : at King's College Chapel in Cambridge, in the old Sacré Cœur church in Casablancaon the facade of the Palacio Bella Artes in Mexico City or even in Seoul, on the gigantic Dongdaemun Design Plaza.

Since his beginnings, Miguel Chevalier has continued toexplore the boundaries between art and technology. After training at the Beaux-Arts and Decorative Arts in Paris at the end of the 1970s, he wanted to propose a new pictorial vision in the field of painting: all the avant-gardes had already pushed painting so far, I said to myself that we had to take a step aside and see how open new horizons in the field of art » he tells us. At the time, the first computers appeared on the market, which encouraged Miguel to explore the creative potential of new technologies.
In the 80s, he worked on installations where digital mixes with movement, color, and optical effects inspired by kinetic art, influenced by artists like Julio Le Parc and Carlos Cruz-Diez. These first steps led him towards experimental works where the pixelsfundamental elements of the digital image, become creative motives in their own right.

Over the decades, the artist developed an increasingly immersive vision. In 1996, he presented his first interactive works where visitors modify the image in real time, an innovative concept at the time. With works like Sur-NaturesOr interactive digital gardens transform according to the interaction of the spectators, Miguel opens the way to generative and scalable installations. His monumental creations in mapping, like the one created in 2013 on the facade of the Palace of Bellas Artes in Mexicoreach an increasingly wider audience.
Artificial intelligence, the artist's new muse
Recently, Miguel Chevalier integrates artificial intelligence in his artistic process, further pushing the limits of interaction and digital creativity. With Meta-Nature IAgenerative virtual reality workit uses algorithms to generate abstract plant forms, halfway between the organic and the synthetic. This shift marks a major evolution in his workallowing him to recreate forms of unprecedented visual richness, while questioning our relationship with technology and nature.

Artificial intelligence thus takes a preponderant place in the new exhibition at the Grand Palais Immersive. With works like Artificial imaginations – unique installation exploring the themes of surveillance and facial recognition through animated images generated by AI –, Miguel Chevalier demonstrates both the artistic potential and the limits of artificial intelligence.
A dive into a sensory and futuristic universe
With the exhibition PIXELSMiguel Chevalier offers total immersion in its universe into two key themes: the line and the pixel, symbols of invisible networks. In collaboration with the architect Sylvie Jodar and the composer Thomas Roussel, who creates the musical atmosphereit offers a poetic and above all interactive journey where each work becomes a sensory playgroundquestioning the connections between the real and the virtual.
