Summer Theater: 10 Summer Plays to Watch

Quebec City and the regions surrounding it are offering a range of plays for summer 2024, here are 10 that are worth taking a look at.

The great heat

Recently widowed, Gisèle is happy as a fish in water with her young boyfriend of 20 years, Yannick. Their escapade at the family chalet, however, takes a strange turn when the lady’s children, who are unaware of her relationship, show up unexpectedly and the neighbor begins to act up.

Call me Stéphane

Classic from the 1980s by Claude Meunier and Louis Saia, Call me Stéphane highlights five students in an evening theater class who are challenged by their teacher, Stéphane, to create a play. As the latter attempts to break through their shells, he creates something dramatic and rather perilous in the group dynamic.

Maestro

In the midst of a breakup, Maude realizes that it’s time for her to get the job she deserves. She can’t stand being second violin anymore, she wants to become a soloist. She therefore decides to invite a great conductor to her home to convince him to hire her, but the capricious conductor has something else in mind. The situation becomes even more complicated when Maude’s ex, also a musician, invites himself to dinner.

A hotel called Désir

A minister, an MP from a remote region, stays with his wife in a small hotel called “Désir”, located on the South Shore of Quebec. Claiming to have a lot of work at Parliament, he then asks his new attaché to reserve another room for him incognito so that he can see his mistress; no chance of this plan working like clockwork.

Florence, the only daughter of two very well-off parents from the Sillery district, introduces them to her new punk boyfriend, named Charles. While Florence’s mother welcomes him with open arms, it is quite the opposite on the side of her father, a great professor of literature.
