The route de Beaucaire, in Nîmes, becomes every weekend the privileged place for wild car races, called “runs”. These nighttime gatherings attract drivers seeking speed and thrills, often in defiance of the law. According to the national police, the phenomenon continues to grow. Serious accidents have already occurred this year, and two young people aged 21 and 22 were seriously injured at the end of March in similar circumstances.
This Friday, November 8, 2024around 10 p.m., the police carried out a control operation there. This action, part of a series of regular checks carried out on Fridays and Saturdays, aimed to contain the dangers linked to these wild “runs”.
Multiple offenses
During this intervention, two individuals were arrested. The first, caught doing more than 150 km/h on a section limited to 90 km/h, was taken into police custody. The police discovered that this man had already been arrested for similar acts last year. This repeat offense led to the immediate seizure of his vehicle, which was impounded. The second driver was traveling at a slower speed but was driving without a license.
