The victim of this fatal accident is none other than Marie-Jeanne Ribera. Aged 89, living in Couiza, she was well known and appreciated there both for her work within the administration of the Jean-Baptiste-Bieules college, and for her involvement in the local rugby club alongside her husband, André, who gave his name to the town's stadium.
Although significant emergency resources were dispatched to the scene of this frontal collision, the octogenarian was unfortunately unable to be resuscitated. Her husband, André Ribera, is currently in intensive care at Carcassonne hospital. He suffered multiple fractures to his pelvis and ribs, and a hematoma to his chest.
Mother of three children, Marie-Jeanne Ribera was a grandmother five times and a great-grandmother three times. The writing of The Independent extends its condolences to them and their loved ones.
