If this regiment had not sacrificed itself, Verdun, the final line of defense, would not have been able to prepare for the enemy attack. It was a unique act of bravery. These were regiments with more than 3,000 personnel. There were 2,600 deaths. You see the sacrifice that represents. The 95th RI was cited twice in the order of the nation and obtained the fourragere of the war cross.”

In 1939, the 95th RI was dissolved, due to lack of fighters, destroyed by Rommel's German tanks. It was reformed at the end of the war and returned to in 1963, before disappearing with the end of national service in 1998. Its flag is kept today at the military schools of Bourges where it is saluted every day, confirms its commander , General Guillaume Santoni: ” The flag is displayed in the command offices and it is traditional to salute it each time one enters or leaves the office. It is also regulatory. We can even pray in front of it, in memory of the sacrifice made by the men who composed it. The flag is the most precious asset of a regiment and it is traditional for it to be guarded by armed men. This is the case for this exhibition. The military schools house four standards and two flags.”
