Many questions remain three days after the fire which ravaged the premises used by the rowing club in Renneville. The first of these: how could the fire smolder in the middle of the night in this building which mainly served as a storage location for the sports association and to the village hunting society?
Joined by Voice of Midi Lauragaisthe Villefranche-de-Lauragais gendarmerie company specifies that it favors “the accidental track” at present.
The investigations yielded nothing concrete
If this thesis is favored by investigators, it is first of all because the expert assessments carried out on site did not uncover any elements that could raise suspicion of a voluntary origin of the fire. “Nothing concrete has emerged”blurted an officer.
“We think it was probably an accident due in particular to the dilapidated places», informs this gendarme. “Perhaps an electrical fault was the cause of the disaster” he continues.
Electricity was only in service in part of the building
This building was bought by the town hall in 2019 with the aim of being renovated to make it a tourist hub given its location on the banks of the Canal du Midi. A project which had been postponed, which had made it possible to make certain rooms available to the two associationswho mainly stored equipment necessary for their activities there.
The Villefranche Renneville Aviron Club had also set up its locker room inside the premises. Only this part had power. “For our part, we didn’t even have electricity”testified a member of the company, early Wednesday morning, upon discovering the places ravaged by the flames.
