The comic is a tradition still very much alive in bigouden country ! At the end of August, an appointment is made in a town, which changes every year, to a whole day of festivities. “This year, we were in Peumerit,” relates Philippe Le Cam, the president. ” With 80 cows of Prim'Holstein breed in competition and a presentation of Montbéliardes, Normandes, Froment du Léon… “. And to encourage new breeders to participate in the show, the organizing association, Élevage et passion en pays bigouden, does not hesitate to go and meet them during the year. “And it works!” This year again, we had new breeders, motivated, or some who had not come for some time.”

Children too

Alongside breeders, the childrenfrom 3 to 17 years old, also have fun, with a presentation of heifers. “Always a great moment for them… and for their family.” And a first foot in the stirrup for many of them, the older ones then not hesitating to “professionalize” via the EFJE, the French school for young breeders, which takes up summer quarters in Ploërmel For 4 days of training on the presentation of animals, clipping…

Producers and artisans

The comic also organizes competitions, in cider and lambig. A market allows you to discover the producers in the sector who have chosen the sales in short circuits. ” THE artisans of the municipality are also invited to exhibit, and the ETAs of the sector to come with their agricultural equipment. And this year we also had a basket maker, an exhibition of old trades and old-fashioned threshing,” adds Jean-Pierre Rohou, assistant secretary. The children were able to walk around the festival site thanks to the little piggy train. And the older ones were able to try their hand at mechanical bull. “And entry is free.”

With the help of local associations

If, year after year, the comic attracts nearly 3,000 visitors, there are often 700 of them in a hurry, at noon, to a hot meal, served on the plate. “This requires around a hundred volunteers,” says Daniel Jaouen, secretary of the association after having been its president for a long time. Associations of the municipality are then solicited, and 80% of the profit is donated to them.

2,000 to 2,500 visitors to the farm

Since 1992, the association has also organized an open farmin order to raise awareness of breeding. Middle school students are first welcomed there, as part of the promotion of green professions, before the general public on Sunday. “We used to receive between 2,000 and 2,500 visitors,” says Daniel Jaouen, who remembers being asked by Agriculteurs de Bretagne to explain their approach, when the association chose to organize the operation. All on the farm. “And it was quite natural that we joined their open days, early June “. Here again, a hot meal is offered at midday, and local associations come to lend a hand. “It puts a good atmosphere in the community. And the mayors come and ask us to go back.” But, like the comice, the open houses change locations every year. “ Plomelin et Pluguffan joined the communes of the Bigouden country a few years ago. And the events return every 8 years in each municipality, alternating between shows and open days,” explains Philippe Le Cam.
